Best BB Cream

BB Creams

It is hard to find out which is the best BB Cream. BB creams- (an abbreviation for “Blemish Balm Cream”) is among Asia’s hottest beauty products right now. This multifunctional skincare cream is said to have originated in Germany as an ointment dermatologists would prescribe to patients who have undergone laser skin surgery for its soothing, healing and skin-regenerating properties. Popular Korean celebrities were the first to start using the cream for beauty purposes and because KDramas (a.k.a. Korean drama series) are pretty big at the moment (here in Asia at least), a craze was born. Korean doctors, and companies have since formulated new and innovative functions and ingredients to this cream making this product a ‘total’ skincare cream from Asia. It is said that 85% of Asian women own a bb cream.  The beauty trend has now spread from Korea to Japan to South East Asia and, is quickly making its way to Europe and North America. best bb cream

At the moment there are said to be dozens of bb cream on the market. It is no wonder why so many women get so confused as to what brand and type is most suitable especially considering there are so many biased reviews on the market.

We did a survey of 200 participants at a local University in the heart of BB cream land in South Korea to find out which products and brands ranked the highest and to find the best bb creams. This survey was done based on the following criteria. Colour, ease of use, price, quality, functionality, brand image, and the overall look when the bb cream brand was applied.
Here were our results for the best bb cream:

The best BB Creams will depend on your type of skin (dry, normal, etc). so buyers should always do thorough research before making their purchase.

BRTC Blemish Recover Balm $34.95 – this is one of the best BB Cream on the market today.  BRTC is known for its botanical ingredients and as a high quality medical brand, which sets it apart from other North American brands that use a lot of chemicals in their ingredients. It has a natural skin tone and gives the best and specially more natural coverage. You really don’t look like you have any make up with this bb cream (remember to give 5 minutes to set to your natural color). However, it can be hard to blend and is slightly on the expensive side but well worth the price consider its wide range of all natural ingredients. Another drawback is that this BB cream does not come in many different shades-it is best suited for people with really light skin. This BB cream is very easy it use-you apply it from a squeeze-tube bottle and comes in a very nice amount that could last you for several months. It has a SPF 28 PA ++ which is great for base sun protection. UVA and UVB. Good oil control and there is no smell to it.   Their marketing design looks very neutral and boring mixed with blue and whites but their overall quality is the best out there. Ultimately BRTC is the best BB cream because of their use of high-quality ingredients, but is best suited for people with lighter skin. Here is their official site:

2 Dr.Jart

Silver Label Rejuvenation BB cream-$42Dr. Jart, an Asian has the second highest grade of ingredients next to BRTC. They are known for their quality but extremely pricy -their best bb creams costing $60. Their design and advertising has a cool look to it often mixed with black and silver. The most popular bb cream from Dr. Jart is Silver Label BB Cream. This is a base bb cream with whitening and SPF35/PA++. Many girls often stated that Dr. Jart has a good medium base coverage so if your looking for something lighter or heavier than Dr. Jart is not for you. It has decent coverage, is not greasy (the silver label is made for dry skin) and a natural finish. However, this BB cream has a very strong, synthetic scent that may make people with sensitive skin break out.  Also, this BB cream is not long-last and wears off after a few hours, needing to be reapplied more often than most. This bb cream has decent oil control but the tone is not great for darker skintones. Overall a top contener for a best bb cream and a strong brand but their prices being too expensive would put them at second best. This product would be great for darker skin tones (comes in a darker shade) and for women who are looking for a natural look that doesn’t necessarily have to stay on for many hours. You can purchase it from their online store.

3 Missha

Perfect Cover BB Cream $29.99 – This BB Cream has SPF 42 PA+++. The coverage is easy to blend on the face however, it still makes your face slighly oily (but takes at least 3 hours on average before it is noticable). The good thing about this cream is the higher spf and that it comes in 5 different shades so it is very suitable for all skin types and skin tones. The smell of this bb cream has a unique  ’baby powdery’ smell that people either love or hate. Despite it’s scent (which is thought to be bad for sensitive skin types) this bb cream won’t make your face breakout so overall I would say it’s a good BB cream. While the Missha Perfect Cover BB Cream does offer a natural-looking finish for the skin, it does not even out uneven complexions.  I find that it goes on streaky and is difficult to blend in, and after wearing it for 2-3 hours can end up cakey in some spots.  Overall Misshia is one of the most popular brands on the Asian skin care market. Their brand image is high but their quality is very average -making their prices in range. I would recommend this product for someone with dry skin as it feels slightly heavy and unnatural on oily skin.  Their site is

Beauty Balm $22- This BB cream by Marcelle is a skin enhancer. When looking for a BB cream we usually expect one that brightens your skin and gives your skin a dewy look. The Marcelle Beauty Balm is dull in nature and will it does give a smooth look, it is more matte. The design of the bottle is more sleek looking with a pump applicator instead of a squeeze tube applicator, making it easier to get the right amount. The one thing that Marcelle does differently from other North American brands is use natural ingredients. While there seems to be only small amounts of flower/leaf extracts, the main ingredients are synthetic products. At just over $20 it is in the middle range of the BB cream market. The first few things that are noticeable about this product is that it  comes out very smoothly-almost like water, however, the texture is very slippery and blending the product in to achieve a natural finish takes some time. This BB cream also seems a bit more hydrated than most. While the range of colours available is limited light-medium and medium-dark, the balm does a great job at blending into your skin’s natural tone after leaving it to set for about 20 minutes. One of the things that I found wrong with this product is that it doesn’t dry evenly. It cakes into your skin’s natural lines and looks almost like a powder instead of a liquid foundation. However, it does stay on for a very long time and you would probably not need to apply it as often. Overall this product would probably work best as a base under your normal foundation as opposed to being worn alone and would best be applied long before going out. You can purchase Marcelle Beauty Balm from many drug stores in North American including Shopper’s Drug Mart or from

5 Skin 79

Super Beblesh Balm $28- Here is another brand that has international presence and is a main player in the BB cream market.
Known for its sparkly and girlish toned decor, Skin79 has many BB creams on the market to choose from.
One of the most popular BB cream is their Super Beblesh Balm which has 3 functions: whitening, sun protection and anti aging. This bb cream comes in a pink tube that looks like a perfume and has a pump applicator, making it much more functional than most BB creams at a comparbale price. It seems that Skin79 spends alot of their marketing dollars on their design but does that mean they are lacking in overall quality? While this BB cream does contain many natural ingredients like fruit extracts, there are some unidentifiable ingredients, which probably contain chemicals and other synthetic materials.  Overall this BB cream was very easy to blend and not that expensive compared to other bb cream brands. It is a good base bb cream and staying power is good. The main issue that kept recurring from the surveys was that 30% of the women that tried Skin79 bb creams got a small to medium breakout. It seems like a hit and miss for most users.

6 Garnier

Miracle Skin Perfector BB cream- $16 Sometimes you get what you pay for, and this is definitely the case with Garnier’s BB cream. Although this BB cream comes in two different shades and should suit most skin colours, this product has an average coverage. The product is very thick and pasty in texture and comes out very thick and chunky. However, after blending it into the skin it has a nice natural look although this look doesn’t stay on for more than a few hours. The main problem with this product for me and for others with sensitive skin, will be the scent. This BB cream has a very strong perfumed scent which actually caused some women to break out about an hour after use and after the product had already worn off the tested spot. While the product claims to contain Vitamin C and other natural products, the labelling would disagree-based on the ingredient list, there seems to be nothing but chemicals in this product. If you have sensitive skin, this product would not be good for you, however if you are looking for an affordable BB cream with decent coverage than this might be the one for you. You can purchase it at Walmart.

7 Maybelline

Dream Fresh BB cream $9-The Maybelline BB cream is one of the most affordable BB creams on the market. But is quality sacrificed for a more affordable price?
Maybelline’s BB cream comes in three different shades light/medium, medium and medium/dark offering a wide range of colours to suit most skin tones. However, the product has a pink/red undertone and may not work well with all skin types and shades. The first thing that is noticeable about this BB cream is that it has a very thick consistancy, that seems to get thicker as you rub it into your skin. It is also thick in the sense that it takes a lot of hard rubbing into the skin to finally settle and even out. It also has a really strong, almost medicinal type of odour that lingers on your skin for a good 10-20 minutes after application. After being on the skin for 20 minutes, Dream Fresh finally settles in and looks and feels natural. Unfortunately, this means you would have to apply Maybelline’s Dream Fresh BB cream at least half an hour before going out to get rid of the odour and to give it time to blend in with your skin’s natural hue. One of the problems with this bb cream is that it fades away easily and probably needs to be reapplied more often than higher-end BB creams. This BB cream is an average BB cream that is in a very affordable price range and is meant for people who want good coverage without emptying their pockets.  The reason this BB cream made the bottom of the list is not because it’s bad, but because it didn’t match up to the other products in terms of quality of ingredients and overall look and feel. You can buy Maybelline Dream Fresh BB cream from Walmart.
